A vet tech's professional adaptation

We are all in a constant process of learning and adjusting. Even the oldest people you know are still learning. This is a fact of life that we all should deal with or else we'll end up immature and clueless.

You'll be going through a lot of professional adjustment right after vet tech schooling. You'll be having examinations, job hunting and fellow vet techs. These will all be crucial as you start to grow professionally.

The very first thing that you'll have to undergo is the examination. You will also have to pass it. There are different laws governing these examinations but the only goal is to give you a license which will allow you to legally practice your profession. This will be a time for one to study and look back to all the learning gathered over time.

After passing the licensing examination you are set for job interviews. You will be interviewed by veterinarians, fellow vet techs and even businessmen. This is a very good time to exhibit professionalism and love for your profession.

Veterinary technicians should know ahead of time what an employer might need. Just remember that what they need is someone ideal. Someone who has gone through two years of education licensed and has had trainings.

Now if you are already employed another set of challenges will come. The environment may no longer be ideal as what you may have seen and experienced at school. There will be animal conditions that you may not have encountered yet, there will be too much noise, and there will be death.

You are going to be around more experienced vet techs and vet assistants. They can intimidate you or push you to be better. It's totally up to you on how you'll react.

Professional adjustment is all about fitting in to the real world. And the real world as we know it is not like the ideal setting you have seen in school. There will definitely be changes and you have to cope with it in order to function properly and move on to a higher level. You'll have to learn fro each mistake and be open for anything to happen.
